For Mike's birthday, grandma Alice sent us some money. The story starts with the fact that my mom and dad were gracious enough to get us a digital camera two years ago Christmas. It was dropped a few times over the last two years and was in rough shape, so dad offered to give us his when they upgraded. Well, we had that one whole weekend before Mikey dropped it and it wouldn't turn back on. Mike has still been "making do" with the original digital mom and dad got us, and I knew he'd never spend the money on a new one even though he loves taking pictures, so I finally decided to spend the birthday money grandma sent to get him a new digital camera. Here are his first efforts with the new Canon Powershot SD1000:

In other news, Maria was invited to a sleepover last night (her third in as many weeks - she has quite the social calendar!) so mom took Isabel and Carmen to see the new Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. The first show we tried to hit was sold out, so we ended up late to another theatre and had to sit right up front, but we still enjoyed the show.
After the movie I noticed the man parked next to us might have a dead battery so I offered him a jump. He was very complimentary, telling the girls, "did you know your mom was an angel?" Well, being the "angel" that I am, I tried to tell him that the car should NOT be started before he attached the cables, but he insisted that you attached the cables after you started the charging car. Hmmm...obviously a nice spark show ensued. He also only let me have the car going for about 45 seconds before he tried to start his which is not enough time. I told him I could stay longer, but he seemed to think it was not his battery and sent me on my way. For anyone who doesn't know, these are instructions for doing a
jump start so even if it might make a gentleman feel as if he's lost his chivalry, please insist he put the cables on BEFORE you start your car to give a jump. Sheesh! And don't be afraid to insist that it takes a few moments so they should just be patient :)
This morning we found out Maria wouldn't be coming back until the afternoon and Mike needed to do some work, so I took the younger kids to Greenfield Village. We had a nice, short visit hitting the highlights: the fountain, the carosel, a model T car ride, ice cream, the pond (where we got to feed ducks and see a few turtles sunning themselves), the train and then home again, home again jiggety jig.

the last few pictures are from my last day off when I took the girls to get their hair cuts and we went to the "pray park" as Mikey calls it, which either means Spray Park or Play Park. (He talks quite well though I have to say!) They really do justice to the older girls new hair cuts. And the final pic is a neat one of Mikey with his beloved bubble maker in action that I picked up at Target a few weeks ago. The "batteries died" as Mikey is so fond of saying about everything that stops working, so we'll have to put some double As on our list because it really is a fun little gadget.
