picnic in the park

Photos from last week. We brought food to McClumpha Park and had a little picnic. Maria spent the night with her friend Marissa. Grandma & Grandpa came on Saturday and took the girls to the movies to see Monsters vs Aliens in 3D and also swimming at the hotel down the road where they stayed. Petey, Mikey and I also walked downtown today although I forgot my camera. We watched trains, played in the park, ate lunch, played in the fountain then headed home. Petey got a bit too much sun on his face. He just would not wear a hat!

The body of Christ

Today, Carmen had her 1st Communion at Shrine of the Little Flower. What a wonderful day for all of us. Grandma Paula cooked a feast and since Carmen loves Subway, we also got a 4 foot club sub that we barely put a dent in. Many thanks especially to Grandpa Bob and Grandma Rose & Alice coming all that way to celebrate with us.By this time poor Carmen was sick and tired of taking pictures!Mikey and Petey in the hotel after taking a swim.

My Brother Petey

Today I did an oral report for my 4th grade class on my brother Peter. Mommy brought Petey to school and I told my class about all the things Peter can do since he last came in. He can crawl and role over. He loves to smile. He has six teeth. He drinks from a cup. He is always messy. He eats everything. He sits up. Sometimes he stands up by himself but mostly he uses something to help him. He loves chatting with his big brother Mikey and I love him!

We got to dog sit ScarletWe always see herds of deer on the way to and from school. In other news, I went to the dentist this week to get my braces adjusted. Now all 4 in the front are connected. It was very uncomfortable at first but slowly the 4 teeth are coming into alignment. I go back in June to check on the progress and hopefully by the start of school in September I will have everything removed!
Grandpa Bob & Grandma Rose and Alice are coming on Saturday and on Sunday we celebrate Carmen's First Communion!

a taste of summer

With the sunny 70 plus degree days we had and the kids out of school it felt a little like summer. We made our first trip to Greenfield Village on Thursday as well as many bike rides, trips to the parks and downtown. We also got some Spring cleaning in as well. Next Saturday is our one day a year we can thrown anything away so we gave the basement a decent cleaning. The girls got to bed early the past few nights so I think we will be ok tommorow morning come 6 o'clock.

Beach Baby, Beach Baby

Mommy just couldn't do a trip to SC without getting BBQ. Unfortunately Uncle Aaron's favorite BBQ restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and we couldn't really schedule dinner out Tuesday night due to the baptism class that Aunt Maeve and Uncle Aaron needed to attend. So instead, when they got back, Uncle Aaron and mommy went out to Hudson's and got "Pig Out" (vs Pig In) from Hudsons. We got a pound of pork, baked beans, mac n cheese and sweet potato fries. Mommy was in hog heaven with this plate!
Wednesday looked to be our best chance for sun and boy did the big guy deliver! We had a nice loooong trip to the beaches in Charleston. First we hit the Isle of Palms...

After about an hour on the beach, we hit the Banana Cabana for a YUMMY meal out on the back patio. Aunt Erin got a delicious shrimp, sausage and steak platter with black beans and rice and hush puppies. Aunt Maeve got yummy shrimp quesadillas and jachima slaw. Mommy got the big dip and Maria got a virgin daquiri and a delicious grilled cheese with season fries.

After our yummy lunch we hit the small strip of tourist trap gift shops and got a few souveniers for the other girls. Maria just hadn't gotten enough beach though, so she requested we go back out in the sun. We decided to hit Folley Beach and drove there to spend about another half hour. Folley Beach had a great selection of sea shells and even a few jelly fish...ew. As you can see, it was an awesome day for the beach!

On our way home (a 2 hr car ride) poor little Peter threw up twice. At first mommy thought it might be car sickness or the spinach dip and guacamole he had for lunch, but after we got home, we realized it was probably too much sun! Poor little man is awfully red as you can see here! Aunt Erin cracked open Aunt Maeve's aloe plant and we lathered him up with the good stuff and he was in great spirits before he went to bed tonight, even taking another turn pushing cousin Kendall in her little swing!

I'll have to upload some videos when we get home (Aunt Maeve's internet connection is too slow!) because we got some great clips of the ocean waves, Peter eating the sand and Peter crawling like mad on the sand. He really, really enjoyed the beach. He is a boy after his mama's heart, that's for sure! We couldn't have asked for a better day. It was so nice to be with Erin and Maeve and Kendall all day, the weather was awesome, the babies were pretty darn cooperative and it was just a great way to end our short trip!
