4th, 5th & 6th grades basketball - it's usually a 3 on 3 tournament, but too many kids wanted to play, so Isabel was on a 4 on 4 team: Beers, Denja, Horvath, Kunisaki - they won for their division!
Mike and I were commenting that this was actually more exciting to watch than a regular girls or boys JV game, the kids really give their all!

The tip off - this ref, Pat, is one of our favorites...he mentors and coaches the kids as he refs. A truly neat human being. Imagine a professional ref coming in for this game...think Sister takes it seriously?

8th grade teacher, Mr Miller
Mr. Kresta, the gym teacher, first SSA alumni to teach at the school and the teacher's star player, shoots a free throw. Despite the crowds roar to try to distract him, it was nothing but net.
Sister Michael Vincent is Isabel's 6th grade teacher and not letting up on Carmen as you can see :)

You can see the teacher's rooting section on the other side of the gym. They were tiny but mighty in their cheers!
This was first half and I can't say if this 3 pointer went in or not, but most of the student scores were 3 pointers I'd venture to guess: Francis, Seppe, Michael and Will all got them in!
At half time one of the Moon boys made a half court shot and all the other boys pig piled him
Though only down by 2 points 20-18 at the half, the 8th grade was down 15 points with 5 minutes left in the game.
The final score above. Several 3 point shots got the 8th grade to within 2 points at the end of the game. In 11 years at SSA, I honestly don't think I've ever heard the 8th grade teacher, Mr. Miller, raise his voice...even when he coached the girls in basketball. At one point I may have heard him yelling "STOP LETTING THEM SHOOT 3 POINTERS!!!"
(and that may or may not have been my favorite part of the game :)
With 4 boys (all capable of 3-pointers) and Carmen in, there was 12 seconds left and the students had possession. Of course the teachers were all over the boys, so Carmen got the ball and to my surprise took the last shot (I totally would have choked and tried to pass it off). Unfortunately it did not make it in to tie the game :( But all in all it was a great effort considering the teachers were not holding back (i.e. playing ghetto) J/K of course but we like to joke the game is rigged...the staff always win :)
