The following is a letter written by Grandpa Bob to Leighanne on our wedding day 12 years ago. I hope that neither he nor Leighanne mind that I posted it here.

Thanksgiving Day

Grandma Paula outdid herself making a meal to be truly thankful for. We took some next door to Aldona and Maria played some Christmas songs on her piano. Later we pick up Tito Kevin from the airport. Tita Tina was very excited because her favorite coffee place, (The Coffee Bean) opened a location (the ONLY one outside of LA) at Metro airport and so she got us a couple of iced coffees. Leigh and I are currently enjoying the break that we get from the kids when Tina and Kevin come and literally attack them. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those
who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out
for what we take for granted.
Amen.

tidbits...

Some cute things I've been meaning to get down in writing before I forget (and I know I already forgot at least one thing...sigh...5 kids is wonderful but with each one it seems I lose a little more brain power...)

I took Mikey grocery shopping the other night late to get a treat for someone's birthday at work. We are walking up to the store and there are car carts: red, green and blue. Well, for months now, Mikey, when asked what color something red is, has responded "stop" and when asked what color something green is, responds "go" - as in, "I want to wear the go socks please! No, I don't want the stop ones!"

So I ask Mikey, which color do you want to ride in and he says, "hmmm, I think I like the water one..." so apparently blue=water.

Isabel's birthday was Sunday and we had a package from grandma Rose and grandpa Bob. Everyone is in the room anxiously awaiting Isabel opening the package. She opens the top and then immediately closes it and says to me, "I don't want Peter to see inside because there is (spelling) C-A-N-D-Y inside." Mikey doesn't miss a beat and starts jumping up and down saying "Hooray! Hooray! There's candy inside!" This kid probably couldn't identify letter C if all of his Thomas the trains were on the line, but C-A-N-D-Y? I know what that spells!

Maria and I were doing homework a few weeks ago. She asked for help with a math problem and so I was kind of talking out how I would answer the problem and said, something along the lines of, "well, couldn't you just say this?" and Maria rolls her eyes, and says to me in a most exasperated tone "Well, I know THAT mom, but I was hoping to think outside the box on this one!" Hmphf. What do I know?

Again, I know there are more that I am missing, but at least I got these three down for posterity...enjoy! (Well, except most of you have probably already heard these at least twice from me...)

day trippers

After taking the girls to get haircuts and their nails done for Isabel's birthday tomorrow, we made a trip to see Grandma Alice in Sturgis.
Maria & Carmen did the Iowa test all week at school. Friday Isabel celebrated her birthday at school and next week they have a Thanksgiving celebration at school. I had a particularly busy week with computer work (which is always a mixed blessing) and so I will be glad and thankful for the time off next week. Tuesday Tita Tina flies in and later Tito Kevin.

This last photo is one that Mikey took with my phone. Petey is just as imitative as Mikey ever was and so when he saw me using this electric razor well he had to try it out too.
